Jimmy Stewart’s Dog, Beau

I have written many posts about our dog named Beau.  Jimmy Stewart, the actor, had a similar dog with the same name.  He wrote a poem that he read on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show back in 1981.  It is funny and more.  Click on the link below.  I expect that you will be glad to have the experience.

I make do not usually reblog, but I am making an exception. This was originally posted on “Shootin’ the Breeze”. If you’re a dog lover, you’re going to tear up at the end of this one. But don’t just read the poem. Play the clip of Jimmy Stewart reading the poem he wrote about his dog Beau.

  6. I remember this episode well. It was one of the few times I shed tears watching Johnny. I splurged a few years ago and bought the set. And please correct me if I am wrong, but on this visit and before the poem, Jimmy was talking about the filming the “Magic of Lassie”. He said there was a scene when Lassie was to knock him down then lick his face. Well, he said, it wasn’t in Lassie’s character to knock someone down then lick… So he slathered something on his face that Lassie couldn’t resist and that cured the problem.

Of course, I can get on my weathered knees to search for the DVD to find the answer… but I wouldn’t be able to see anyways due to the tears flowing down my face.

  7. Shared on my facebook page where I have so many friends who love dogs! Thank you for sharing the stories of your Beau, and that of Jimmy Stewart!

  8. Your blog tonight is a “two-fer” — I loved the poem. Isn’t it funny how the ornery dogs are the ones you love the most?

And then the name of your blog brought tears to my eyes, too — it brought back my dad, who was always shooting the breeze about something or other.

Thanks for the tears and the smiles.
