Remembering on Memorial Day

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the organizer, Who gave us the freedom to demonstrate

It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag.

And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag.”

Father Dennis Edward O’Brien, USMC

  1. A favorite around here, and one far to many forget. Hope you’re having good Memorial Day!

  2. This is so true. Thanks for posting.

  3. A good point, well made.

  4. Loved that, sir. With our military shrinking beyond sight (with lack of after-service attention by the government as a possible contributing influence), fewer Americans only see entitlement.
